Well known for its soothing gel, this versatile house plant has green, silvery variegated leaves and needs little attention. It is drought tolerant so dry soil out completely between watering. Too much direct sun can burn the leaves, so place somewhere bright but sheltered. Average mature size is 12"-36" tall and 24"-48" wide
This annual has small honey scented flowers on tiny leaves. Blooms range in colors of pinks, yellow and white. These are small plants, only getting3-6 inches tall. They also need well drained soil. If the soil stays boggy it can kill the plant. Keep that in mind when planting in a flower bed, hanging basket or arrangement.
Basil is fast growing and can require frequent repotting. Needs at least 6 hours of sunlight, so a windowsill is a great spot. A grow light can supplement for lack of natural light. Start harvesting leaves when plant reaches six inches tall. Suitable soil is well drained and kept somewhat moist. Varieties: sweet, Italian large leaf, lemon.
Blood meal is slow releasing nitrogen. Nitrogen helps in the top growth and deep greenery of the plant. Signs your plant may need nitrogen is yellowing or drooping leaves, and slow growth. To apply, sprinkle appropriate amount on plant and water in. *Always read and follow label directions.
These trees make a great windbreak and largely reduce soil erosion. An evergreen tree with blue/green and slivery needles year round. Once established this tree will tolerate some drought and salt. Mature trees average 35'-60' tall and 15'-25' wide. Hardiness zone: 3-7
Bone meal is slow releasing phosphorus. Phosphorus helps in creating a strong root system and stimulates plant growth. Some signs your plant is lacking phosphorus are small plants with no flowers. This is a smaller house plant that needs direct sunlight and heat. Preferably in a windowsill without a draft or vents. Only water when slightly dry. This perennial is easy to grow and care for; with long, sword shaped, green leaves. Typically blooms mid summer, around July, in a variety of colors. This flower is technically an annual, but has been known to come back year after year for some people when planted outside. Offers fragrant, quarter size blooms in shades of pinks and reds; similar in appearance to a carnation. Dianthus can tolerate some shade, as long as they get about 5 hours of sun a day. Diatomaceous Earth is a pesticide made from silica; which is fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms called diatoms. They accumulate in sediments from rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. When dusted on plants it causes insects to dry out and die. Use on slugs, bed bugs, fleas, ants, cockroaches, centipedes, millipedes, caterpillars, beetles and more. This is a palm tree like houseplant that will need plenty of room to grow as it can reach 7'-8' tall and 12"-36" wide. Long dark green leaves on smooth, woody trunk. It needs consistent, bright, indirect sunlight. Keep away from drafts, vents, windows and walls as temperatures can easily transfer and damage the plant. Allow to dry out between watering; usually2-4 times a month during the Summer.

This interesting succulent is two species of cacti grafted together. The top cactus is brightly colored in pink, red or yellow. Top cactus is a "mutant pup" and all nutrients are provided by bottom cactus referred to as the root stock plant. Wide variety of species can be grafted together. Average mature size is just 2"-6" tall and 1"-2" wide so this is another perfect plant for a desk corner. This does not like direct sun, so stay away from the windowsill.

This is the perfect small houseplant for a windowsill or desk corner. It only reaches2"-5" tall and 3"-8" wide, with thick leaves forming a rosette shape. Leaves have small white stripes, thus the name Zebra plant. Will tolerate drought well, so let dry out between watering.

Easily grown spreading shrub that will tolerate drought and grow in very dry soil. There is no change in color with the seasons. This works well as an every green ground cover. Mature bushes average 5'-10' tall and 8'-12' wide. Hardiness zone: 4-7
This lawn food provides the high nitrogen and iron required for a deep green and thick lawn. Available in a 20 lbs. or 40 lbs. bag. Twenty pounds will cover 5,000 square feet and 40 pounds will cover 10,000. *Always read and follow label directions.
Lemon balm can be on indoor herb, or an outdoor perennial. If planted outdoors, it likes part sun with a little shade. If planted indoors, place in a sunny spot. If allowed to bloom the leaves will become bitter. Pinch off blooms as soon as they come if going to harvest leaves. Start harvesting as soon as plant is established. Don't harvest more than 25 percent of plant at one time, it will damage the plant. Water when plant is dry, or starting to wilt. Hardiness zone: 4-9
This shrub can grow tall and wide, creating a nice barrier or bush out on it's own. In the spring, large flowers pop up around the top in shades of lavender, purple and pink. Once established it can tolerate drought conditions. Mature bushes average 8'-12' tall and 8'-12' wide. These can be pruned to preferred size and shape. Deciduous. Hardiness zone: 3-7
This flowering annual is an asset to both your flower bed sand your garden. It keeps many pest away, including deer. These flowers grow straight up with around, condensed bloom in colors of oranges, yellows and maroon. Marigolds can tolerate high heat and full sun, so find a hot spot for these ones.
Mint is an herb that can be planted indoors, or outside as a perennial. These will spread and take over, so if planting outside leave plenty of room. They can also be planted outside in large containers if you want to contain them. Mint is very easy to care for once established. It can adapt to any soil or light conditions. Leaves can be harvested while plant is growing. For larger harvest, don't allow to flower. If planted outside, transplant small stems into pot to keep in kitchen over the winter months. Varieties: spearmint, peppermint, chocolate, apple, pineapple, orange, strawberry.

A great low maintenance option with the added perk of these plants cleaning the air of the room they are in. They have large dark green leaves with a white flower, or spathe, shooting from the middle. Very drought tolerant. Water when starting to droop and completely dry soil. Pea plants need at least 6 hours of consistent sunlight, so find the right spot in your garden. Harvest 3-4 weeks after flowering. Pods will be swollen and usually ready at the base of the plant first. More harvest equals more production. Pea pods stored in the refrigerator will last about 3 days.

This fast growing tree will produce shoots quickly under the right conditions. Consider location when planting due to extensive shallow root system. The "quaking" of the leaves adds movement and soft, pleasant sound to landscape. Green leaves turn yellow in the fall. Mature trees average 50'-60' tall and 20'-30' wide and are fast growing. Deciduous. Hardiness Zone: 2-5

These woody plants bloom slowly starting in July and fully bloom in August into a bright blue and purple. Russian sage will grow in just about any type of soil and conditions. This is a cascading succulent with pea shaped leaves and is fast growing. It blooms tiny white flowers that smell like cinnamon in the summer. The blooms last about a month. Bright, indirect light is ideal. Like most succulents, this one needs little water; only when the soil has dried out. Average mature size is 6"-8" tall and 24"-36" wide.
These are soft skin squash and will only last about 4-5 days after harvesting. Ready 50-65 days after sowing. Best tasting when young, even if only half grown. Most summer squash varieties grow on upright plants and need full sun. Varieties: ball's zucchini, crookneck, flying saucer, yellow straight neck.

This annual has clusters of small flowers in shades of purples, pinks, blues and reds on delicate greenery. Depending on the variety, these grow upright or stay low and make a great ground cover or border. Verbena like full sun and can tolerate dry soil.

Hard skinned squash harvested late summer until it freezes. Because of hard skin, it can be stored over the winter. These grow on vines, so allow plenty of room to spread with full sun. These are used for cooking and pies, not to eat raw. Ready 60-110 days after sowing. Make sure it is ripe and ready before cutting from vine.
